As Canadian Republicans we condemn the unprovoked aggression of the American Empire against the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Overnight, the American military has conducted a regime change operation which included the bombing of the Venezuelan capital city, Caracas, and the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife, who are currently being held in New York for trial on trumped up charges.
American President Donald Trump has claimed this regime change operation is related to drug trafficking. However, Venezuela is not one of the producing or smuggling countries in the region. The countries that are involved in drug trafficking tend to be the countries that are under American hegemony, such as Honduras. Ironically, last year, it was Trump himself pardoned the former Honduran President, Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was at the center of an international drug trafficking scandal. This makes Trump’s rationale for the assault on Venezuela dubious at best for it being “related to drugs”
This is a blatant act of imperialist aggression to consolidate the hegemony of the American Empire through a regime change operation against one of the last standing leaders and resistance states in the American hemisphere.
These events necessitate an inquiry into the “Paleo-Conservatives” on the American Right who in recent years have claimed to be “anti-intervention.” While the Paleo-Cons have been vocal about this position with regards to NATO-Russia proxy war in Ukraine, it should be noted that they uphold the Monroe Doctrine in the American Hemisphere.
Those on the American Left that call themselves “MAGA Communists” who have made claims that Trump would govern as an “anti-war” president — and that Trump and Maduro were somehow “anti-imperialist” allies — have been thoroughly discredited, such as their ideological leader, Caleb Maupin.
Anyone can see Trump’s true colours here. This regime change operation has ushered in a renewed era of the Monroe Doctrine, a geostrategic shift which we have referred to before as MAGA Imperium, the imperialist consolidation in the American hemisphere.
Should the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela fall, all of the peoples in the Americas will be in a far worse place for resisting the American Empire.
We join the chorus of millions of anti-imperialists worldwide who demand to FREE MADURO and HANDS OFF VENEZUELA.
